Sri Lankan female firebrand fighting for London Mayoralty, Asian Tribune, 17/10/2007 Thu 18th Oct 2007 London. 17 October, (Asiantribune.com): Chamali Fernando born and bred in England to Sri Lankan parents is the youngest person to have been short-listed by a mainstream political party to be a mayoral candidate for London.

The Candidate- Hélène Mulholland, Guardian, 19/09/2007 Tue 2nd Oct 2007 Chamali Fernando, 28, is a party activist and barrister from Finchley and daughter of Sumal Creasey Fernando, a solicitor advocate, who made political history by becoming the first Sri Lankan to contest a parliamentary seat, Leicester West (SDP), in 1983.

London Mayoral Hustings via Anders Hanson- Britishblogs.co.uk, 20/09/2007 Tue 2nd Oct 2007 Liberal Democrat selections don't normally generate a buzz of excitement, but yesterday afternoon's hustings for the London mayoral candidate showed that they can and with good cause. Despite struggling to get a selection going earlier in the year, the party can now be really proud of the people that are being put forward. Chamali Fernando was first up and completely wowed everyone in the room. She was confident, passionate, articulate and managed that difficult feat of appearing to be intelligent and serious whilst also being fun and down to earth.

Another day at the LibDem conference- Quentin Letts, Daily Mail,19/09/2007 Tue 2nd Oct 2007 The first candidate to speak was a small woman called Chamali Fernando. She is a barrister and, she duly showed, a right firework. "Liberal Democrats, Chamali Fernando, young, fresh and unspun," she began, her voice sure and faintly husky.

Lib Dems come top in 'green' audit Thu 13th Sep 2007 The Liberal Democrats have been voted the greenest of the three main political parties in an audit by Britain's environmental groups published today. How Green Are Our Parties? The Green Standard Report concludes that none of the parties is yet committed to the policies and action on the scale required to meet the range and urgency of the environmental threats facing the world. The Liberal Democrats, regarded as the party with the most long-standing commitment to the environment, come out on top despite efforts by the two biggest parties to catch up.
