My Experience

My father is a successful Solicitor Advocate, and at 23 years old I followed in my father's footsteps to become a Barrister. During my career I have represented people from all walks of life. In some cases I have been a "leader" where other defence representatives have been at least ten years senior or more.

A passionate advocate, through tenacity, determination and drive I have used this experience in representing companies in the commercial world. I have advised businesses and individuals on property, planning law, employment, litigation and debt.

I hold a law degree from University College London and I am a member of the Middle Temple.

20 years campaigning experience with the Liberal Democrats

In 1983, my father, Sumal Creasey Fernando made political history by becoming the first Sri Lankan to contest a Parliamentary seat, Leicester West. In 1987, he fought Nottingham North. Here I saw for the first time through my own eyes, "what it takes".

I started political campaigning very early. I was first out leafleting when I was 6 years old - just the perfect height for those hard to reach letter boxes! Then in 1987, when my father fought as the party PPC in Nottingham North, I spent time in the Campaign Headquarters stuffing envelopes, folding leaflets and went on delivery rounds.

Since then, I have been involved in every single General Election, most by-elections and many council election campaigns. I truly believe that by meeting people and understanding their problems - through door knocking, leafleting and telephone canvassing - we can re-engage people in the democratic process through the issues that matter to them.

Outside the party, I have championed campaigns to assist children, the underprivileged, access to justice and the protection of the environment.
