Campaigning around London

Party in doorstep converation

Promote party policy. Talk about the issues. Inspire Londoners.

Whatever your local issue, the closure of a local school or post office, campaigning for more cycle paths and cleaner streets, safer neighbourhoods, and even fighting for greater flexibility in the affordable housing market Chamali will help you to bring publicity to your local campaign, to air the London Liberal Democrat Voice and engage with communities suffering from voter apathy.

Chamali's campaigning priorities for London Liberal Democrats are to:

1 // Visit every London Borough, to maximise identification and turnout of the Lib Dem supporters

2 // Work with local parties to highlight Liberal Democrat issues

3 // Use the Mayoral Campaign to present a positive image of the party and its policies across London

4 // Aim to walk the streets of London to develop London-wide campaigning, particularly in priority seats and key councils

5 // Inspire thousands of Young Londoners to become more involved in the work of local parties and the democratic process

Chamali's favourite style of campaigning

Chamali does survey

Knock and Drop Surveys are Chamali's absolute favourite; great fun on a Saturday afternoon with instant results! The survey is a less intrusive opportunity to quickly find out peoples' opinions on local issues.

If your Local Party has not done one yet, Chamali recommends getting some tips from the Local Party in Ealing where Knock and Drop Surveys are thriving. Several weekends ago, she was on the Knock and Drop rounds with Councillors in Ealing. It is a great way of breaking into uncharted territory and showing a proactive local presence.

Campaigning in Finchley & Golders Green against high density development with no infrastructure

Over 400 angry residents signed the Finchley & Golders Green petition. The local party is criticising an ill-thought out project and requesting more effective consultation. If we act now we can ensure the regeneration project accommodates needs of the local community.

If we don't move fast a local school will be smashed down and rebuilt, with no real benefit. The Tescos is going to be demolished as well. This is to allow the construction of accommodation for 7,500 people with no adequate infrastructure or widening of the roads to allow for the increase in traffic from such a high density project.

Petitioning

As Liberal Democrats we are in favour of progressive regeneration, but not at the expense of local communities. The 3 conservative councillors claimed they consulted 1,750 people, who were excited by the project but "wanted to know more". That is not an endorsement to proceed with the project.

As Mayor of London, Chamali will insist on more effective consultation processes with greater transparency so local communities do not feel misled.

Contact Chamali to find out how you can join the Finchley & Golders Green team on Sunday afternoons surveying local residents -- or to join a Lib Dem campaign team elsewhere in the city. As Liberal Democrats we are strong local activist on issues that matter to local communities. Let us keep playing to our strengths.
