My Vision
My priorities for the Mayoral campaign and for London are to: - Promote party policy and talk about the issues that matter to Londoners - Campaign London-wide working with each local party - Inspire Young Londoners - Empower boroughs to deliver housing that better meets their needs - Motivate Londoners to work towards Kyoto targets - Get more bobbies on the beat Tackling voter apathy by reaching out to disconnected communities London suffers from voter apathy. We need to reach out to the 6.5 million Londoners who are eligible to vote but are disengaged from the political process. If we want to make any headway in London, we have to connect more with the "Disconnected Communities" that Sir Menzies Campbell QC referred to in his speech at Party Conference.
London is the Multicultural Capital of the World. London gave me an education and a cultural grounding. This is something I want to share and promote. My age and fresh approach to 21st Century Politics appeals to people who are fed up with the politics of spin and are looking for the politics of substance. I love meeting people, listening to the issues that matter to them and helping them. London is a vibrant City; as Londoners we deserve more. As Liberal Democrats, we are excellent at delivering Local Government and believe in localised accountability and representation. You need a Mayoral Candidate who passionately believes in bringing Politics to the People, someone who is committed to campaigning and with strong interpersonal skills.
Including Outer London in the London Agenda As the Liberal Democrats Mayoral Candidate I will develop inclusiveness of the Outer London Boroughs in the London Agenda. In the fight between Boris and Ken you need someone who is hot on Party Policy, who listens to the people, who is a true People's Politician - and a Liberal Democrat at heart. Reducing the divide between the Rich and the Poor London has so much to offer, but Londoners are being short-changed: the gap is widening between the rich and the poor, between Outer and Inner London, housing needs are not being met, transport fails us, crime and unemployment continue to rise, people with disabilities or families cannot fully experience London life. Throughout the campaign I have been busy finding out what your top issues are for London. Please continue to contact me with your policy suggestions and ideas for London.
